The son of Malcolm Wilson (the boss of M-Sport, which manages the official Ford team in the World Championship) has always been around rally cars.
Matthew was too young at the time when his father was himself a driver in the World Championship in the 1980s, driving the legendary MG Metro 6R4.
Matthew is just as passionate about rallying as his father and he took the wheel as early as he could. In 2004 - at the young age of 17 - Matthew took part in his first rally... the Malcolm Wilson Rally!
That year Matthew finished all of his races. His best result was a third place at the Trackrod Rally Yorkshire and he also competed in a World Rally event - Rally GB - with a 13th place result at the wheel of a Focus WRC.
Matthew won his first rally the following year, taking the victory at the Malcolm Wilson Rally. He became the youngest driver to win a round of the British Rally Championship at 18 years, 8 months and 5 days.
However, his season was interrupted in April when he violently went off the road during the International Rally of Wales. Matthew returned in time for the 2005 Rally GB, where he finished in 15th place.
In 2006, Wilson joins the Stobart VK Ford M-Sport team for a full season in the World Rally Championship in the Manufacturer 2 category.
