All set for the third Rali de Portugal
|
The Rali de Portugal Historico, which takes place October 8-12, will break new ground as it travels throughout Portugal: a country steeped in rallying history. As well as driving through some classic stages, competitors will get the chance to discover some lesser-known areas of Portugal.
The event forms part of the IRC Classic series, which shares the same values as the IRC such as the spirit of adventure and innovation. However, it is designed for the growing interest in historic rallying all over the world.
Historic rallies tend to focus either on outright speed or regularity: where competitors have to maintain a set average speed throughout the rally. Portugal is a regularity event, requiring plenty of precision and commitment from the crews.
The third Rali de Portugal Historico starts and finishes in the town of Cascais and takes in 38 stages.
The total length of the rally is 1750 kilometres, of which 550 kilometres are competitive. All in all, there will be around 280 time and passage controls. The rally has attracted 115 entrants, at the wheel of a wide range of classic rally cars that vary from Mini Coopers to Porsche 911s.
